Two Star Reviews You Love to See… | Rich Life Letter #063
Last week we received a two star review.
Normally, I don’t like two star reviews. I mean, it’s two stars.
But this one I didn’t mind so much.
Here’s the review:
I was a prospective client, but post-initial consult, I was overwhelmed by the number of comms over a very short period of time. 3 text message reminders to take action, 3 update emails, and another 2 reminders; not to mention a hard sell loss aversion (allegedly “true” story) email. This is all within 4 days.
While they seemed incredibly professional at the start (and made scheduling very easy), the frequency was way too high for me. The fear appeal email felt unprofessional and unnecessary (I already went through the consult, I’m not the target audience for someone that’s demonstrated high intent).
I assume if you utilize their services they’d due a great job given the other reviews, but if you’re deliberate in your pace (or need time to discuss with your significant other), prepare yourself for daily reminders, perhaps multiple, in whatever comm channels you allow.
Here’s why I didn’t mind the review (so much – it still is not fun to get these, just FYI): I see our job, in one way, is to get you to take action to do this thing that is ACTUALLY very important to you and your family.
And I also know that doing estate planning is the LAST thing most people want to do.
And I know that while everyone recognizes it as being important, there is also very little urgency behind getting it done (we never really know when we’re going to need it, so what’s another day, right?).
Because we actually care about you and want you to get something done that is good for you, we are going to do things that you might sometimes find annoying (if you are a client and have been dragging your feet you STILL get those weekly check in emails…) to help you take the steps to get this thing done.
That’s the point.
That’s why we exist – to help you complete something you know you should be doing.
So, if you are someone occasionally annoyed by our communication, I do sincerely apologize – the point is not to be annoying but politely persistent.
And, we’re not going to stop.
The subject matter is just too important.
Have a great week!
Cheers,
Christopher Small
