What I’d Do if I Won the Lottery (Privacy)… | Rich Life Letter #115
Happy Sunday!
Hope your fantasy football teams are crushing it.
Today I wanted to talk about something that’s pretty fun to daydream about – winning the lottery.
Yesterday two lucky ticket holders’ lives were changed forever when they found out they would be splitting $1.7B. Yes, that’s billion.
I thought it would be fun to run down what I’d do if I were one of those lucky winners.
Here’s what I’d do.
First, I wouldn’t tell ANYONE. Literally no one, nada, zilch, until I did steps 2-7 below. Once that info gets out, it’s going viral.
Second, I’d put the ticket some place safe. Not like a safety deposit box necessarily – somewhere in my house the kids wouldn’t likely to happen upon and make a paper airplane out of.
Third, I’d hire independent private security for my house (and when I eventually deliver the ticket to the validation people). Remember, I’m now a deca-millionaire, it’s worth the investment.
Fourth (in WA at least), I’d hire an attorney to create a Wyoming LLC with a professional registered agent (their info will be available to the public – yours will not).
Fifth, I’d create a WA LLC, owned by the Wyoming LLC. This will give you privacy when claiming your prize (NOTE – you can’t do this in every state, but you can in WA).
Sixth, I’d get a ride from my security detail to the lottery office and turn in my ticket for validation. When asked, I’d take the payment over time method (just FYI – it’s a personal preference thing really).
Seventh, with $500m, I’d probably look to hire a private family office to manage the money for me. This would include investing, taxes, estate planning, and education for the family.
That’s it!
Have a great week!
Cheers,
