Labor Day Origin Story… | Rich Life Letter #044
I love holidays. Not only are they great opportunities to spend time with family and friends, they give me an easy topic to write about for this newsletter. :)
And the reason I love writing about them is, for many, I don’t know much about their origin story.
We all know Labor Day is about celebrating the working class here in America, but do you know its origin story?
Well, you’re about to.
Turns out in the late 1880’s a couple of people came up with the idea of taking a day to celebrate organized labor (if you weren’t aware, working conditions in the U.S. used to be less than ideal – organized labor helped to change that).
They chose the first Monday in September because the weather is usually good and it’s sandwiched nicely between the 4th of July and Thanksgiving.
So there you go.
And on that note, as you are out there in the world doing your things, please take a moment to remember there are SO many people in the background doing things that make your life easy.
Grocery store clerks and stock people;
Restaurant servers and cooks and dishwashers;
Trash picker uppers;
Road construction crews;
Gas station attendants;
and on and on and on.
They work hard in the background to make your life better.
Let’s be not just respectful to them but also take a minute to say “thanks.”
It actually does make a difference.
Everyone wants to be seen and appreciated for their contribution to the world.
Have a great day!
Cheers,
Christopher Small
