Working on Labor Day | Rich Life Letter #028
I’m writing this on Labor Day. Literally.
It feels like I shouldn’t, though.
Labor Day, because everyone gets the day off, should be about non-labor, right?
Yet, here I am working.
I’ll tell you why soon, I promise.
First, though, a primer on Labor Day (the short version, I promise).
Labor Day actually is a celebration of working, in a sense. It was originally a set of conventions held across the country for every day workers to discuss their goals related to work environments and to celebrate the hard work they’d put in.
The conventions were usually held on a weekday, and when they first started, many could not attend because, well, they had to work.
Hence the birth of Labor Day.
Second, before I get to why I’m working, I think it actually IS important to acknowledge all the people that work extremely hard to keep our lives amazing and get very little thanks for it.
I’m basically talking about everyone in the service industry, grocery clerks, waiters, garbage workers, road service crews, and everyone in between.
Think about all of the people involved behind the scenes that allow you to live the comfortable life you have.
And, while we’re here, it’s not enough to take just today to tell them you appreciate them – show them every day by treating them with respect and thanking them for the work they are doing.
Okay, finally, why am I sitting here in the office on Labor Day working?
It’s simple enough – this doesn’t feel like work to me.
I enjoy writing this newsletter.
I enjoy working with clients, building a successful team of estate planning and probate experts, and trying to help people learn about the experience we can give them.
This is fun for me. It really is.
So what’s the point?
Find those fun things in your life, and pursue them. While others may see it as work, you know what it really is – the pursuit of awesomeness.
Enjoy the day!
Cheers,
Christopher Small
