The “Practice” of Law | Rich Life Letter #023

You ever hear an attorney say they have been “practicing” law for 10 years?

Or a doctor say they’ve been “practicing” medicine for 12 years?

Ever wonder why we say “practice?”

I am sitting in a kitchen in Dallas, Texas right now after just having attended and then hosted mastermind meetings and was reminded why we call it a practice.

We refer to what we do as practicing because we understand we are never going to be perfect.

We are always going to be learning something new, acquiring new skills, or sharpening skills we already have.

It is never ending.

So we are the consummate practicers.

And it got me to thinking… what if we applied that philosophy to other aspects of our lives?

What if we practiced parenting?

Or practiced being a good partner?

Or practiced being a good friend?

What if we were intentional about continuing to become better in those roles, to learn more about those roles, and to hone our skills in those roles?

What would our lives look like?

I’d like to think I know I haven’t learned it all in any aspect of my life, and I probably never will.

And that commitment to continuous improvement while never reaching the end is kind of what life is all about…

I hope you had a great weekend and are having a great summer!

Cheers.
