Changes | Rich Life Letter #022

QUICK ANNOUNCEMENT – I was going to talk about asset protection today in this month’s estate planning deep dive, but instead I’m going to share a talk I did with some investors on dynasty trusts earlier this week.

Here’s the link to catch the replay of my talk: https://youtu.be/8RRWuvOFlPU

Changes…

Last week was Sandra’s last week in the office.

If you don’t know who Sandra is, she’s been a paralegal in my office for about 2.5 years.

She’s really good at what she does.

And last week she let me know it was time for her to move on to another opportunity.

Was I surprised? Yes.

Was I shocked? No.

Was I angry? No.

Was I excited for her to leave? No.

See, I EXPECTED her to leave at some point.

Because change is the only constant.

And it does no good to bury your head in the sand and think everything is just going to be okay.

So instead of wishing and hoping that Sandra (or anyone else in my firm) would never leave I’ve invested time and money into creating systems and processes that allow for people to smoothly transition into and out of the business.

We have multiple people able to fill in for any individual person without any drop in service or level of expertise.

And I’m actively training and encouraging my people to become as good as they can be at what they do – which means invariably and inevitably they will want to seek out and pursue other opportunities.

How does this factor into your life?

It’s important in life to hope for the best, expect the best, live fully, and at the same time be aware of and protect against the worst case scenario (even the ones you don’t want to think about).

Because not thinking about them won’t prevent them from happening, it will only prevent you and the people you love from being able to handle them appropriately.

By the way, I’m actively looking for a new paralegal, so if you know someone that might be interested, please let me know.

Otherwise I’m sure I’ll be telling you all about the next great person we’ve brought on the team in due course. :)

Cheers.

Christopher Small
