Make Your Own Super Bowl… | Rich Life Letter #137
Before we get into this week’s newsletter, we have 2 important announcements:
1. Liz had her baby! Baby and mom are healthy and looking forward to getting to know each other. This, of course, means she’s going to be out of the office for a bit. No worries though, if you are currently working with Liz we’ve got you covered (you can still email her and it will get to the right person).
2. Successful Q1 Client Care Lunch & Learn. We had our first ever lunch and learn last week and it was great. The topic was “Estate Plan Stress Test: 5 Moves to Make 2026 Safer for Your Family.” If you are a Client Care member, a link to the recording will be coming out soon.
Okay, let’s talk about making your own Super Bowl.
You all might not know this about me, but I love personal development. Reading books, attending conferences, and even paying coaches.
It was at one such conference, many years ago, that my love for sports was destroyed forever (in a good way).
See, I used to be a HUGE sports fan. The Kansas Jayhawks (all sports) and Seattle Seahawks mostly.
I watched all the games, followed all the stats, and had a great time doing it.
Then I went to this conference, and one of the speakers talked about making your own Super Bowl (side note – I can’t remember who the speaker was, and he wasn’t specifically talking about the Super Bowl).
The gist of his talk was this – there are so many ways in which we live vicariously through other people. Sports, social media, etc. are all ways in which we get to feel like we’re doing something without actually doing it.
We often do this for several reasons: fear of failure; fear of judgment; not knowing how to get started; etc.
But nevertheless, when we live vicariously through the lives of others we miss out on making our own Super Bowl.
Instead of being on the sidelines spectating, we should all be thinking and trying to get in “arenas” in our life where we can play.
Pursue the goal. Take the trip. Enroll in the class.
Whatever it is, participate instead of spectate.
I will be rooting for the Seahawks today, make no mistake about that. But the outcome of the game doesn’t have any effect on my life – I’m playing my own game in my own arena with my own Super Bowls.
I hope you are too.
Have a great week!
Sincerely,
Christopher Small
