This estate plan we created was for a woman in her late fifties, who was a government worker. She had one daughter and one granddaughter.
Her goals were to provide for her daughter and her granddaughter at her death. She had less than two million dollars in assets, so we created a simple Will plan for her, which included a:
- Will;
- Financial Power of Attorney;
- Healthcare Power of Attorney; and
- Healthcare Directive.
As her estate was small and she wanted to leave everything to her daughter, a simple Will plan worked for this client. This is because a probate would be filed, and once the creditor claim period passed, the probate would be closed rather quickly.
The Power of Attorney documents provide her with designations for individuals to take care of her while she is incapacitated.
We prepared the Health Care Directive for end of life decisions and to take the mystery out of what she would want to happen to her if she were in a permanent vegetative state.
