Wills and Probate… | Rich Life Letter #074
Happy Sunday!
Short message today as I’m currently sitting in the Kansas City airport waiting to catch a flight back to Seattle after a great weekend with friends.
This is something we hear from time to time when talking to clients/potential clients about estate planning that I wanted to clear up.
Two things actually.
First, if you have a Will and it needs to be used you will have to go through probate to make distributions.
The Will doesn’t prevent probate – it just tells the world where you want everything to go – and it controls distributions.
Second, if you have to go through probate, with or without a Will, the government WILL NOT take any of your assets.
Your assets will get to the right person through the probate process – there is no government seizure because you need to go through probate.
That’s it for today.
Have a great week!
Cheers.
