Kids Become Adults Too… | Rich Life Letter #090

Happy Sunday!

I had a couple of conversations about this last week, so I thought I’d quickly remind all of you with kids out there – some day they are going to become adults too.

And I’m not talking like, “they’ve finally moved out!” adults.

I’m talking about the day they turn 18 and legally become an adult.

The moment that happens, they receive all of the privacy rights and protections that you and I have – which is great – unless you need to keep being a parent and help them out at some point.

The good news is, there’s an easy way to keep being a parent, even after your kids turn 18 – the Power of Attorney and Medical Power of Attorney.

And I’m not talking about yours, I’m talking about theirs.

In order for you to have the access that you probably want and they probably want you to have, they need to create a Power of Attorney and Medical Power of Attorney and appoint you (and both parents, usually) as their agent.

It’s not hard to do and makes a HUGE difference if you ever need to step in and truly help them (getting dark here for a sec – but if they are in a car accident, are really sick, or just want you to help them with a health insurance question/claim).

Our kids are our kids forever, but not in the eyes of the law.

Consider getting this done if you have young, but adult children. It’s not hard and the upside is significant.

That’s it for today!

Cheers,
